Fairchild Semiconductor Wins Best Reference Design Award from Electronic Design-China

 Fairchild Semiconductor has been named a winner in Electronic Design China’s 2012 Original Design Awards for Best Reference Design in the Power Supply category. The award was given based on a submission from Fairchild about a total solution for a 200W LED street lamp power supply, which was developed at Fairchild's Global Power Resource Center in China.

The inaugural Original Design Awards are organized by Electronic Design-China, with the goal of highlighting innovative local designs. Winners were selected by the engineering community in China.

The reference design provides LED street lamp designers with a total solution, from AC input to LED string driving stage. Each circuit in this reference design uses a high efficiency topology, as well as high performance controllers and discrete components to achieve a total peak efficiency of 91.26 percent. An efficiency of up to 92.6 percent can be achieved when the LEDs are in an integrated package because this implementation does not require constant current control for each LED string. This type of high efficiency design can reduce temperature increase and extend the lifetime of both the power supply and the LEDs.

Every semiconductor component in the design is from Fairchild, making sourcing easier for customers, and saving engineers time since they do not have to communicate with multiple suppliers.

The reference design is available with comprehensive technical documents, including circuit schematics, PCB diagrams and drawings, BOM and test data. Customers can also request demonstration boards and one-on-one technical support services from FAEs.

 

 

The Best Reference Design Award is to be presented to Fairchild at a ceremony in Shenzhen, on 13 January.
